Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

A large metal sculpture sits in a grassy lawn, a city view in the background. The sculpture has mobile-like arms with colorful objects on top.

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in America, and one of the most visited sites in the Midwest. Anchored by our beloved Spoonbridge and Cherry, the garden presents more than 60 works by artists like Theaster Gates, Alexander Calder, and Angela Two Stars spread over 11 acres of carefully selected native plants. Part outdoor gallery, part public park, the garden is an ideal gateway to the Walker, and a perfect destination for a date, family picnic, or solitary meditation.

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is a proud partnership between the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.

Visitor Guidelines

  • • Don’t touch the art; let the art touch you.

  • • To stay present, stash your phone (along with your coat, backpack, and umbrella) in our free lockers or coatroom.

  • • Bring a pencil and pad into the gallery, but leave pens and other art supplies at home.

  • • Turn off your flash. Take a picture of a piece you love. Send it to someone you love.

  • • Things we permit: making friends, trying things. Things we don’t: pets, smoking.

  • • Take a seat on one of the gallery benches. Pretend the people around you are art.

  • • Take a date to the Mediatheque. If they don’t like niche films, maybe it’s not meant to be.

  • • Don’t bring food or drink into the galleries. If you’re hungry or thirsty, be sure to visit Cardamom.

  • • Buy a book at Idea House 3 (Museum Shop) and read it in the garden.

  • • Be a good person and respect everything around you.
